Annual Dinner March 3rd
The Chicago
Mountaineering Club (CMC) is proud to have Mark Wilford as our guest
speaker for the 2012 CMC Annual Dinner
on Saturday
March 3rd at the Oak Brook Double
Tree,
1909 Spring Road, Oak Brook, IL 60523.
Mark Wilford started climbing in 1970 and was a
leading rock climber before he graduated high
school. Mark is considered one of the most
proficient and diverse alpinist/rock climbers in the
world. With more than 30 years of experience, he
has accumulated a long resume of bold rock
ascents, alpine solos, Alaskan climbs and Himalayan
expeditions. Among his most notable climbs are the
first American solo ascent of the Eiger North Face, a
first ascent route on Nameless Tower, a winter solo
of the Diamond on Long's Peak and first ascents in
Alaska's Saint Elias Range with Barry Blanchard.
Although he has participated in sport climbing and
ice-climbing events, Mark is considered a staunch
traditionalist when it comes to the style and ethics
of climbing. In 2001, Mark also pioneered a new
route on Yamandaka, a previously unclimbed
21,000-foot peak in India's Karakoram. The route
was put up in traditional alpine style, ascending
4,000 feet of highly technical terrain. In addition to
his climbing accomplishments, he is a husband and
father, a climbing ambassador for Patagonia, and a
sales representative for Julbo, LaSportiva, Sterling,
and Metolius
