David C. Ireland Memorial

In Memory of David C. Ireland 1953 - 2005

Dear Midwest Climbing Community, We are sad to inform you of the death of CMC Club member and CMC Board Member, David C. Ireland. David died on July 18, 2005 from a fall while climbing in the Bugaboos. He and a climbing partner were climbing the Lions Way route on the Crescent Spire in the Purcell Mountain Range in British Columbia, Canada. Dave dedicated a tremendous amount of time and energy to the CMC and was always caring, thoughtful and enthusiastic. As the CMC Programs Chairman, David was responsible for the wonderful presentations at the CMC General Meetings. In addition, David spearheaded the CMC 2005 Annual Dinner, where he helped introduce many new and interesting ideas that made the dinner very memorable and are sure to be traditions for years to come. David was frequently found climbing with the CMC at Devil's Lake, WI and was always very welcoming to climbing guests and new members. He was passionate about climbing and mountaineering and took trips to new and interesting places. He was always a joy to work and climb with and will be deeply missed by all. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday July 26th, 2005 at the Unity Church of Chicago (located at 1925 W. Thome Ave., Chicago IL).
