Chicago Mountaineering Club
The Chicago Mountaineering Club
was founded in 1940 and has a mission is to promote interest in the
sport and craft of mountaineering, foster fellowship among climbers of
the Chicago/Midwest area, disseminate mountaineering knowledge and
information, develop skill in the climbing techniques of its Members,
and sponsor local practice outings and periodic western outings. more information about CMC >>
Membership in the Club is open to anyone who is 18 years of age or
older, is interested in climbing/mountaineering and has fulfilled the

| Access Fund Affiliation |
The Chicago Mountaineering Club is a proud Access Fund Affiliate. Access Fund Affiliates are LCOs (Local Climbing Organizations) who have joined the Access Fund Affiliate Program. Through the Affiliate Program, the Access Fund’s goals are not only to strengthen their relationship with the climbing organizations that perform such great work on the local and regional levels, but to strengthen all of their advocacy efforts as well.
As an Affiliate, the Chicago Mountaineering Club is proud to offer a $5 discount to our members for their initial Access Fund membership. To start your Access fund membership, click here.

There are always new and exciting things happening around the Chicago Mountaineering Club. Please join us for the Devils Lake State Park Volunteer Weekend on 7/26/08-7/27/08. The plan is to help with flood clean up on Saturday and climb on Sunday. Please see the details and contact Keith Bielat, CMC Conservation Chair, if you are planning to attend.

The American Alpine Club has accepted a challenge grant from Yvon Chouinard to support the feature length documentary about club member and prolific route opener, Fred Beckey. Every once in a great while an individual lives a life that is so unique and inspiring that their story must be preserved for posterity. The film titled Direct Beckey. Fred spoke at a recent CMC general meeting and is a wonderful person. Please visit this website if you would like to make a donation.

The Chicago Mountaineering Club is looking for existing members that have a desire to become Rope Leaders. A Rope Leader is responsible for taking out climbing groups during official club outings. If you are interested in becoming a Rope Leader, please contact the Safety Chairman for more information.
